About World Diabetes Day (14 November)
14 November is World Diabetes Day
14 November is World Diabetes Day. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health issue and to highlight what collective and individual action can mean for prevention, diagnosis, care, and support.
How World Diabetes Day began
World Diabetes Day was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation with support from WHO, in response to growing concerns about the health and economic threat posed by diabetes. It became an official United Nations day in 2006.
Raising awareness and action
The day brings attention to the importance of diabetes prevention, early diagnosis, access to care and treatment, and the need to strengthen education and support for people living with diabetes and their families.
